USB Software Update for Mr Beam

Important: This guide also applies to users who want to upgrade to BeamOS 2.0 but are not yet on version 15.1.

➡️ In this case, you must first update via USB stick to version 15.1. Only then can you proceed with the migration.

Note: For this update, you need a separate USB stick. Please do not use the USB stick from our shop.

When should you use a USB update?

The USB software update is intended for users who:

  • do not want or are unable to connect their Mr Beam to the internet
  • do not want to use the wireless update function (OTA)
  • want to install the latest version immediately without waiting for rollout

Quick guide

  1. Prepare the USB stick
Create a folder named mrbeam on your USB stick and copy the .sigfile into this folder.

    USB stick requirements:

    • At least 100 MB of free storage
    • USB 2.0 compatible
    • Formatted as FAT32
    • Only one .sig file on the stick
  2. Important: Delete any existing .sig files from your computer beforehand to prevent automatic renaming (e.g. (1) or (2) in the filename).

  3. Insert the USB stick
Insert the USB stick into your Mr Beam. After a few seconds, you will see a white light pattern.
  4. Finish the update
Once your Mr Beam shows a bright green light, you can remove the USB stick.

Estimated duration: less than 30 seconds

Download the software

The .sig file on the USB stick contains the software update for your Mr Beam.

? You can always find the latest version in our Google Drive (link at the top of this article).

Note on updates

The integrated Over-the-Air (OTA) update usually provides new versions earlier than the USB update.

Recommendation: If possible, use the automatic update via Wi-Fi. If the latest version is not yet available on your device, you can install it manually via USB.

Common issues with USB updates

If the update does not work, please check the following:

  • The ZIP file was not extracted (the .sig file is still inside the archive)
  • The .sig file is located in the wrong folder (e.g. mrbeam_software_update_xxxx)
  • There are multiple .sig files on the USB stick
  • The file was renamed or downloaded multiple times (e.g. (1), (2))

Correct setup: A single .sig file inside the mrbeam folder or in the root directory of the USB stick.
